Symphony of Science

Music is universal. It serves as a reflection of one's generation. Just like technology, music evolves as time goes on. It enables us to express the things we want to say that mere words won't be able to  convey properly.

One of the first songs played in the class is an instrumental, specifically an orchestral song. What is visible in the video our professor made us view is that the orchestra is comprised of a large group of musicians who play together using various instruments which usually includes strings, woodwinds, brass instruments, and percussion instruments. The people who play the instruments aren't the only ones who compose the orchestra. One essential part of it is the conductor. It is quite interesting how  music was focused on instrumentals during that time. Musical geniuses like Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and Ludwig van Beethoven gained the spotlight.

The second half of the songs presented were mostly modern songs. Rock, alternative and like were its genre. Certain influences slowly molded these genres into how they are today. Modern instruments such as the bass, electric guitar and such began to enter the music scene. Truth to be told, modern music mostly appealed to the younger audience.

What amazes me is how science can somehow find its way to become one with music. One example is the 1954 jazz song "Fly Me to the Moon" which is written by Bart Howard. If you think about it, the song came out fifteen years before NASA was able to send an actual human being to the moon. It amuses me how one's "scientific thirst" is expressed through a song. Songs that tackle science have undergone a modern twist. This is evident through Far East Movement's Rocketeer and Coldplay's famous song, The Scientist. Science-related television shows also captured the attention of the audience. The Big Bang Theory, an American sitcom, features an entertaining opening which features an opening song that has scientific concepts as its lyrics.
